Weaning from CPB is a critical period when the whole body and not just the heart and lungs have to be delinked from the cardiopulmonary circuit. This requires close cooperation between the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the perfusionsist. The scrub nurse must be prepared for emergent situations that can occur while delinking.
